Emma has enjoyed classroom visits with schools whose super clever teachers used View From the 32nd Floor in truly creative ways.Students at Macarthur Anglican Junior School enjoyed meeting Emma as part of a Book Week extravaganza. They’d built models of high-rise streetscape and characters from View From the 32nd Floor, using these to make fantastic book trailers which used animation as well as acting by students with background music. It was exciting to see how much fun they had and how their devoted teachers embraced the possible ways the novel could be used. The Head Teacher English at Elderslie High School rallied the entire school to devote a whole day to View From the 32nd Floor. The story suited all reading levels and covered a lot of curriculum areas including music, art, technology, geography, history, cooking, varied cultures and life experiences. All subject areas devised activities that related to the book, bringing the school together while promoting literacy. The celebration of reading saw students super excited to meet Emma and ask questions about her story and about writing.Technology allowed Emma to visit an International School in Tokyo Japan when View From the 32nd Floor was shortlisted for the Sakura Medal. She chatted with kids from all parts of the world who live in Japan because their parents work there.
